Grocery Store Sale Cycles

In conducting my research on extreme I came across this great article on www.thekrazycouponlady.com. I am so glad I stumbled upon this article because I really did learn a lot from it. Here is some useful information I took away from this article. Hopefully this information will help you save more at the grocery store as well. 

I did not know until reading this article that other items in the grocery store are seasonal as well, not just produce! There are certain times of the year that some items go on sale. Here is a timeline provided by the website listed above that reveals when you should stock up on certain items. 

January
* National Oatmeal Month- this means great prices on quick, old-fashioned, steel-cut, and rolled oats, as well as oatmeal packets. 


* Diet Food- everyone makes those new year's resolutions to get healthy so products like Kashi, Lean Cuisine, South Beach, Special K, Smart Ones, 100 calorie packs, weight loss bars and shakes, food scales, diet cookbooks, and exercise equipment all go on sale. In addition, diet product companies usually release money saving coupons you can match with the sales to save even more. 


* Organizational Needs- another one of those new year's resolution things...to get organized. Items like label makers, storage tubs, files folders, etc. go on sale and there are normally coupons in the circulars that can be matched up with these sales.
 

* Winter Health Items- cold medicines, cough drops, and vitamins. 


* Seasonal Produce- Avocados, oranges, pears, grapefruits, tangerines, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, chard, collard greens, carrots, kale, kiwi, cabbage, and spinach.

February
* National Canned Food Month- look for great deals on canned fruits, veggies, soups, pie filling, tuna, chicken, and salmon. 


* Super Bowl Sunday- this means lower prices on dips, soda, chips, crackers, sandwich items, snacks, wings, and fruit and veggie trays. 


* National Hot Breakfast Month- YUM! Awesome deals on frozen waffles, oatmeal, cream of wheat, pancake mix, hash-browns, sausage, bacon, maple syrup, biscuits, and more.


* Valentines- take advantage of prices 75%-95% off and stock up on candy, cards, boxed chocolates, lubricants, perfume, sparkling cider, candles and gift sets. Stock up for upcoming birthdays or Valentine's Day next year. 


* Seasonal Produce- artichokes, asparagus, oranges, parsnips, potatoes, pears, collard greens, kale, turnips, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chard, and grapefruit. 

March
* Frozen Food Month: frozen meals and entrees, frozen fruits and veggies, side dishes, desserts, juice concentrates all hit rock bottom prices.


* March Madness- soda, chips, dips, crackers, sandwich items, and wings go on sale.


* Winter Clearance- winter clothing, sleds, snow shovels, gloves, etc. are marked down up to 95% off. 







* St. Patrick's Day- stock up on St. Patty's Day decorations the day after. 



* Seasonal Produce- artichokes, asparagus, avocado, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, grapes, celery, grapefruit, onions, peas, rhubarb, strawberries, lemons, limes, mushrooms. 

April
*  Easter- ham, eggs, dying kits, candy, stuffed animals, decorations, chocolate, etc. all go on sale. Stock up the days after the holiday for next year. 


* Baking Supplies- refrigerated cookie dough, sugar, spices, flour, and chocolate chips are priced low. 


* Spring- gardening equipment, seeds, bird feeders, cleaning supplies, and allergy medications go on sale and litter the coupon inserts.


* Earth Day- natural and organic foods and beauty products, reusable water bottles, water filters, etc. go on sale. 
 

* Seasonal Produce- mushrooms, strawberries, beets, asparagus, peas, onions, rhubarb, artichokes, avocados, grapefruit. 

May
* Summer Needs- bug repellants, sun block, lawn mowers, beach toys, summer clothing, outdoor furniture, and grilling utensils are priced low. 


* Cinco De Mayo- this means sales on salsa, tortillas, taco shells, shredded cheese, tortilla chips, canned beans, frozen Mexican entrees, and margarita mix go on sale. 


* Memorial Day- this is the best time to find great deals on barbeque sauce, mustard, ketchup, hot dogs, buns, paper plates, charcoal, salad dressing, chips, dips, plastic utensils, etc. 


* Mother's Day- stock up on cards, perfume, gift sets, photo frames, and candles go on sale. 


* Gardening- plants, flowers, seeds, watering cans, garden hoses, plant food, soil, weed killers, mulch, etc. 


* Seasonal Produce- beets, blackberries, artichokes, asparagus, avocados, carrots, corn, green beans, onions, raspberries, strawberries, sugar snap peas, potatoes. 


June

* National Dairy Month- items such as milk, eggs, ice cream, cheese, butter, yogurt, cream cheese, and whipped cream are all on sale. 


* Fourth of July sales start toward the end of the month- stock up on hot dogs, ketchup, barbeque sauce, mustard, buns, charcoal, salad dressings, chips, and dips.


* Seasonal Produce- apricots, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, cherries, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, figs, garlic, grapes, honeydews, nectarines, peaches, potatoes, raspberries, red onions, sweet bell peppers, plums, potatoes, tomatoes, watermelon, and summer squash.

July
* Back to School Sales- crayons, folders, notebooks, paper, lunch boxes, etc. go on sale for the early clearance. 


* Seasonal Produce- Asian pears, green beans, blueberries, corn, cucumber, peppers, onions, melons, peaches, summer squash, grapes, figs. 

August
* School Supplies- these items hit rock bottom prices after the kiddies are back in school. Stock up for next year and to avoid paying full retail price in the middle of a school year when they run out of paper, lose a lunch box, or a backpack bites the dust. 

* Lunch Items- pudding cups, lunch meat, Lunchables, and single serving beverages go on sale. 


* Disinfectants- bleach, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizers, and disinfectant sprays go on sale to gear up for flu season. 


* Clearance- items such as bug sprays, sun block, gardening supplies, swim wear, seeds, fans, and camping gear go on sale. 


* Seasonal Produce- avocado, beans, berries, cherries, corn on the cob, cucumbers, melons, onions, figs, eggplant, peaches, peppers, plums, summer squash, and tomatoes. 

September
* Diabetes Awareness Month- this means sale prices on glucose meters, test strips, compression socks, vitamins, weight loss scales, and diabetic snacks, cereals, drinks, and sugar free snacks. 


* Labor Day- this means great deals on shoes, clothing, restaurant deals, barbeque supplies, etc. 


* Seasonal Produce- apples, artichokes, beans, cucumber, eggplant, grapes, onions, peppers, squash, and tomatoes.

October
* National Seafood Month- low prices on fish, shrimp, lobster, and crab.


* Breast Cancer Awareness Month- deals on pink products. 


* Adopt-a-Pet Month- great prices on pet food, cat litter, pet toys, collars, treats, etc.


* Seasonal Produce- beets, apples, artichokes, arugula, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, chard, cranberries, parsnips, pears, pomegranates, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, winter squash, turnips, and yams. 

* Halloween- stock up on decorations and costumes for next year, as well as candy. 


November
* Baking Goods- nuts, chocolate chips, spices, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, baking mixes, coconut, etc. 


* Canned Foods- soup, broth, gravy, tomato sauce, veggies, and fruits. 


* Holiday Fixings- cranberry sauce, turkey, stuffing, potatoes, yams, gravy, rolls, frozen pies, pureed pumpkin, marshmallows, Jell-O. 


* Seasonal Produce- apples, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, cranberries, kiwis, lemons, oranges, pears, potatoes, pumpkin, squash, yams. 

* DON'T FORGET ABOUT BLACK FRIDAY DEALS!!!

December
* After Thanksgiving Sale- stock up on themed napkins, decor, frozen whole turkeys, and other holiday supplies for next year. 
 
* Holiday Staples- deli meats, egg nog, cookies, instant potatoes, gravy mixes, rolls, frozen pies, cranberry sauce, Jell-O, marshmallows. 


* Baking Supplies- flour, sugar, spices, baking mixes, frosting, sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, etc.


* Canned Foods- fruits, veggies, soups, gravy, tomato sauce, broth.
